my story

When I sat down to write my story, I became frozen at the sight of the blank sheet of paper…

So I began with…what is it that moves me?

Then one of my earliest memories came to mind…

Around the age of four I had a conversation with God... About how I wanted to create  world peace… Little did I know, that in order to create world peace…I would have to know that peace within myself.  As I look back on my life, I can see that the steps I have taken have moved me toward that childhood conversation. And it has been anything but graceful! But I believe that if you advance your soul you advance the planet.

About my art practice…

My creativity has always been an important part of my life. It is my journey inward. Most of my work is a stream of consciousness that provides me with a sense of calm and peace. I draw inspiration from nature, music and life experiences. I leave it up to the viewer to interpret whatever she/he perceives it to be.

I believe that life is a process and a practice. Life is connection. Life itself is a work of art.

About my yoga practice…

Twenty years ago, I decided to give yoga a try. As the physical demands of my decorative painting business began to affect my body, I thought the stretching and strengthening of yoga postures would help ease my aching bones. Not long after attending class on a regular basis, I noticed an increase in energy, stamina and an overall sense of wellbeing.

I have since learned that yoga is so much more than just  physical exercise. It has a way of releasing toxic memories from your cell tissue that no longer serve you… while filling you up with love, joy, compassion, forgiveness, gratitude and peace. It is about finding connection of the mind, body and soul.

A wonderful passage from the Bhagavad Gita teaches us “yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self”…

My creativity has allowed me to explore and express my inner world. I see it as a meditation…an expression of the soul. After I began practicing yoga, I discovered how closely related the two practices were… Art and yoga are pathways that have led me to a deeper connection with myself, with life and the Divine. By combining both disciplines, I wish to guide others as they explore pathways to find wellbeing and solace through creativity, mindful movement and meditation.

When I think back on that innocent conversation with God… As I create peace within…that peace ripples out into the world…
